From conflict zones to new beginnings, dozens of youths in Yobe are rebuilding their lives with skills, support, and fresh hope.
No fewer than 80 youths in Yobe State have benefited from a British Council–funded training and empowerment programme aimed at promoting reintegration and sustainable peace in insurgency-affected communities.
The initiative, implemented by the Communal Resilience Support Initiative (CORSIN) in Damaturu and Gujba LGAs, provided intensive four-month training focused on leadership, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution. The goal was to strengthen social cohesion while helping young people rebuild economically.
CORSIN Executive Director, Dr Mohammed Machina, said the programme combined skills training with direct financial empowerment. He revealed that 30 participants received ₦100,000 each as start-up capital to launch small businesses and become self-reliant.
Beneficiaries shared inspiring testimonies, saying the support had improved their livelihoods and renewed their commitment to peaceful coexistence. One participant, Malam Sa’adu Adam, praised the British Council for investing in youth development, while Hajiya Fatima Saleh said the grant helped her achieve financial independence and support others.
Stakeholders called for sustained donor support to expand the programme and consolidate its gains in strengthening peace and economic resilience across the Northeast.
