While APC leaders describe the Katsina congresses as largely peaceful and credible, a handful of aggrieved members have filed petitions triggering internal review and reconciliation efforts.
About six dissatisfied members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State have formally petitioned the party’s Appeal Committee over the conduct of the recent ward and local government congresses.
Chairman of the Appeal Committee, Sadiq Mohammed-Ali, disclosed that the petitions were reviewed and discussed with the complainants. However, he emphasised that the number of complaints was minimal compared to the scale of the exercise, which covered 361 wards and 34 local government areas.
According to him, the party largely followed its constitution and guidelines during the congresses, describing the level of compliance as substantial.
He confirmed that all petitions relating to ward congresses had been resolved and the committee’s report completed. However, petitions concerning the local government congresses are still being accepted, with aggrieved members encouraged to submit their complaints formally.
Mohammed-Ali also commended the Local Organising Committee for maintaining neutrality and allowing the process to proceed without interference.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Katsina APC Congress Committee, Yakubu Bashir-Bello, described the exercise as successful and widely accepted. He noted that many wards and local governments adopted consensus arrangements agreed upon by party stakeholders, contributing to a smooth and credible process.
The development reflects internal democratic processes within the party, as leadership works to address grievances and maintain unity ahead of future political contests.
