Kano’s State Assembly by-election ran smoothly and peacefully, but voter turnout remained low as Ramadan fasting and limited candidate participation kept some away.
Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Amb. Abdu Zango, praised security agencies for ensuring a safe and orderly election during Saturday’s by-election in two state constituencies.
Speaking after monitoring polling units, Zango noted that voters behaved responsibly, with “no violence, no threats—visible or invisible.” He attributed the low turnout partly to Ramadan and the small scale of the election, involving only two major candidates.
Zango also blamed the leadership of NNPP and PDP for not fielding candidates, clarifying that INEC welcomed any party meeting all requirements.
Nine parties participated: Accord Party, AAC, ADC, APC, APN, APP, PRP, WPP, and ZLP.
