BVAS shines and voters turn out as FCT area council elections run smoothly, says INEC.
Prof. Joash Amupitan, INEC Chairman, expressed satisfaction with Saturday’s FCT area council elections, describing the exercise as orderly, efficient, and peaceful.
Speaking from Abuja, he praised the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for reducing waiting times to under five seconds per voter and lauded the calm behavior of citizens and security personnel.
Amupitan acknowledged minor delays in some polling units but said 99% of units were open by 10:30 a.m., and real-time monitoring ensured all eligible voters could participate. He also addressed the brief harassment of a journalist, confirming immediate intervention and release.
The INEC boss said the elections reflected growing voter awareness and pledged continued improvements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
