Travel to the UK just got more digital as Nigerians will no longer receive visa stickers in their passports.
The UK Government has announced that starting Feb. 25, Nigerian travellers applying for UK Visit visas will receive an electronic visa (eVisa) instead of the traditional vignette sticker. The new system allows applicants to access their visa online through their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, as part of the UK’s transition to a fully digital border.
The UK High Commission in Abuja said the move would make the visa process faster, more secure, and less dependent on physical documents. British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Lever, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to making travel easier for Nigerians, while continuing to welcome visitors, students, and workers.
Under the new system, the application process remains the same, including biometric capture at visa centres. However, instead of a passport sticker, successful applicants will receive a secure digital record of their immigration status. Existing visa stickers will remain valid until they expire.
The eVisa system also allows faster passport returns, better security against loss or tampering, and easy online access to immigration status anytime, anywhere.
