PLATEAU MINE SEALED AFTER DEADLY GAS LEAK KILLS 37

Tragedy in Zurak as toxic gas claims dozens of lives—Minister orders mine closure and full investigation.

The Federal Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, has ordered the immediate sealing of a mining site in Zurak, Wase LGA, Plateau State, following a deadly gas leak that killed at least 37 miners and hospitalized 25 others.

Preliminary reports suggest victims were exposed to poisonous gaseous emissions while mining in an abandoned lead site under Mining Licence 11810, operated by Solid Unit Nigeria Limited. Villagers had reportedly been allowed to extract minerals from the site, unaware of the toxic risks.

Minister Alake has dispatched a team of investigators, including mining and environmental experts, to probe the incident and recommend sanctions. He also condoled with Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang over the tragic loss of lives.

Authorities warned that further updates will follow as investigations continue.
