A corps member turned compassion into action—helping vulnerable pregnant women avoid preventable childbirth tragedies.
Latifat Yusuf-Bola, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Katsina State, has distributed free delivery and baby care kits to about 80 underprivileged pregnant women.
The gesture was part of her Community Development Service (CDS) project and took place during a maternal health awareness and antenatal sensitisation programme at Turai Yar’adua Women and Children Hospital and General Hospital Katsina.
Yusuf-Bola said the initiative was inspired by a heartbreaking incident she witnessed, where a woman lost her babies because she couldn’t afford essential delivery materials. Determined to prevent such tragedies, she mobilised support from donors and partner organisations to assist expectant mothers.
The project, supported by Hillside Charitable Foundation and Purelife Foundation, aims to improve maternal and child health among vulnerable women.
NYSC officials and partners praised her humanitarian effort, describing it as impactful and life-saving, while urging other corps members to launch similar community-focused initiatives.
