MAKE CHILDHOOD CANCER TREATMENT FREE, SIX-YEAR-OLD PLEADS TO FG

6-year-old Lois Adebayo and other advocates urge the government to lift the burden on families battling childhood cancer.

A brave six-year-old cancer warrior, Ms. Lois Adebayo, alongside her mother, Gloria, called on President Bola Tinubu to make childhood cancer treatment free during an advocacy outreach at Church of Christ Kado, Abuja, supported by the Akanimo Cancer Foundation to mark International Childhood Cancer Day.

Lois, still undergoing treatment, said: “President Tinubu, please make cancer treatment free for children. This support will help us survive.”

Her mother highlighted the heavy financial and emotional toll of cancer treatment, noting that many families struggle to afford expensive drugs and therapies. “It has not been easy. Cancer treatment is a devourer. If it can cover adults, why not children who have a better chance of survival?” she asked.

Dr. George Ebong, President of the Association of Resident Doctors, FCTA, emphasized that early detection is key and that faith and medicine work hand in hand. He called on the government to make all childhood cancer treatment free, not just subsidized, and warned parents against ignoring warning signs like persistent pain, unusual swelling, prolonged fever, and fatigue.

Survivor Evangelist Abiodun Adegoroye shared his story, stressing that faith alone isn’t enough without proper medical care. Church elders and members also supported the campaign, urging parents to seek timely medical attention for their children.
