GORDON’S FOUR-GOAL MASTERCLASS FIRES NEWCASTLE TO 6–1 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUT

Anthony Gordon delivered a stunning first-half performance, scoring four goals to put Newcastle United on the brink of Champions League last-16 qualification.

Anthony Gordon scored four first-half goals as Newcastle United demolished Qarabag FK 6–1 in Baku in their Champions League playoff first leg.

Gordon struck early in the third minute, added two penalties, and capitalised on a defensive error to complete a remarkable first-half haul, taking his season tally in the competition to 10 goals — ahead of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, with only Kylian Mbappe scoring more.

Malick Thiaw also found the net, while substitute Jacob Murphy sealed the dominant win in the second half. Qarabag managed a consolation through Elvin Jafarguliyev, but the damage had long been done.

Despite missing eight key players, including captain Bruno Guimarães, Newcastle cruised to victory, extending their impressive run of away wins.

The emphatic result leaves Newcastle firmly in control ahead of the return leg in England, with one foot already in the Champions League last 16.
