SHETTIMA RETURNS FROM AU SUMMIT, PUSHES FOR AFRICA’S HEALTH, WATER SECURITY

Vice-President Kashim Shettima returns to Abuja after key AU summit talks, securing global goodwill and pushing for Africa’s self-reliance in health and development.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Assembly, where leaders focused on sustainable water access, sanitation, and Africa’s long-term development goals under Agenda 2063.

Beyond the main summit sessions, Shettima held high-level bilateral talks with political and business leaders to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships across Africa.

He also gained the backing of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who urged Nigeria to play a leading role in shaping Africa’s place in a new global order.

Shettima, in turn, called for Africa to prioritise health security sovereignty, urging the continent to reduce dependence on foreign aid and build strong, self-sufficient healthcare systems driven by local capacity.
