Nigeria strengthens its voice on Africa’s economy, security, and democracy.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union, running Feb. 14–15.
Welcomed at Bole International Airport by Ethiopian officials, Shettima will join discussions on peace, security, and democratic governance. Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Yusuf Tuggar highlighted Nigeria’s recent diplomatic wins, including a permanent seat on the Board of the African Central Bank and representation on the Technical Convergence Committee, boosting Nigeria’s role in shaping Africa’s financial architecture.
Tuggar also noted Nigeria’s leadership in ECOWAS-backed Peace and Security Council elections and a Ministerial High-Level Panel on Regional Partnerships for Democracy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to stability and inclusive governance across Africa.
Nigeria’s presence at the AU summit underscores its drive for economic integration, democratic development, and regional collaboration.
