Over 4,000 households in Rubochi and Ikwa now enjoy reliable electricity thanks to a 1MW solar mini-grid!
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), in partnership with the Government of Korea, has successfully powered Rubochi and Ikwa communities in the FCT. The system delivers 900kW to Rubochi and 100kW to Ikwa, energizing homes, schools, hospitals, and small businesses.
At the inauguration, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu highlighted the project as a driver of socio-economic transformation, saying access to electricity is no longer a privilege but a fundamental enabler of development. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized the project as a model of international cooperation and a boost to rural infrastructure under the government’s Renewed Hope agenda.
The mini-grid includes advanced metering, a modern distribution network, and real-time energy management, ensuring sustainability and reliability. REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu noted that the project immediately impacts livelihoods, education, security, and local economies, creating jobs and expanding opportunities.
Community leaders praised the initiative, calling it a major relief after years of darkness and limited access to electricity.
