NCS TO BREAK EXPORT BARRIERS FOR ONION FARMERS

Nigeria’s onion exporters get a boost!

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has pledged to remove non-tariff barriers and streamline operations to make exports easier for onion farmers and other traders. Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi assured stakeholders that customs will work with relevant agencies to create a facilitating trade environment.

The move follows a visit by the Regional Observatory of Onion in West and Central Africa (ORO/AOC), led by Aliyu Maitasamu, who urged better coordination and support for cross-border onion trade. Adeniyi highlighted that efficient exports not only create jobs but also boost Nigeria’s GDP and trade balance.

Structured frameworks are being set up to address transit bottlenecks, strengthen regional cooperation, and ensure legitimate trade flows through Nigeria’s corridors, including routes to Benin and Niger.
