75 killed in Kwara; government ramps up security in North Central communities.
The Federal Government is intensifying security across North Central Nigeria following the deadly terrorist attack in Kwara State that killed about 75 villagers, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said on Friday.
The new initiative, Operation Savannah Shield, deploys military, police, and forest guard units, backed by enhanced intelligence and rapid-response teams. The move comes under President Bola Tinubu’s expanded national security mandate declared in November 2025.
Idris said measures include heightened protection for worship centres, especially on Sundays, and redeployment of police officers from VIP duties to community policing in Kwara, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and FCT.
President Tinubu condemned the attacks as “heartless” and vowed that all perpetrators will face justice, stressing that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations remain sovereignty-driven, with selective international cooperation on intelligence and surveillance.
