FCT STREETLIGHTS GET SECURITY UPGRADE TO CURB VANDALISM

Abuja’s streets are getting smarter—and safer!

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has revealed that streetlights in Abuja are being fitted with surveillance features to stop vandals. The upgrade, led by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGC Nigerian Ltd, will link streetlights to a control room, capturing any attempts at theft or damage.

Wike said the move is necessary as there aren’t enough security personnel to patrol all roads, and most streetlights have been targeted by criminals. The Airport Road project is almost complete, with other areas soon to follow.

The initiative builds on the October 2025 solar-powered streetlight project, which aimed to light up 80% of the city, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance public safety.
