20,000 FOREIGN VISITORS SET FOR FInAB 2026 IN COTONOU

Nigeria takes centre stage as global arts festival grows bigger and bolder.

No fewer than 20,000 international participants are expected at the 2026 edition of the Festival International des Arts du Bénin (FInAB), scheduled for Feb. 20 to March 1 in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The projection, unveiled at a Lagos media briefing, signals the festival’s rising global appeal. Last year’s edition attracted about 15,000 foreign visitors — and organisers say 2026 will be even bigger.

Nigeria has been named a featured country, with a special “Nigeria Day” set aside to showcase its rich cultural, culinary and creative industries. From fashion and film to dance, drama and food, the spotlight will firmly be on Africa’s creative powerhouse.

Organised annually by Empire Group, FInAB is the brainchild of its President, Ulrich Adjovi, and serves as a major platform for theatre, music, cinema, fashion, literature and visual arts.

Officials say the festival, launched in 2023, has already promoted over 500 local and international artistes while boosting tourism, trade fairs and regional economic ties. This year’s edition will place special emphasis on fashion, reflecting the sector’s growing continental influence.

Tourism stakeholders say Nigeria Day will open doors for both emerging and established creatives to connect with global investors and industry leaders, strengthening cultural diplomacy within the ECOWAS region.

Organisers also confirmed that efforts are underway to ensure smooth cross-border participation for Nigerian delegates.
