UK EMPOWERS KATSINA WOMEN THROUGH PEACE & SECURITY TRAINING

New initiative aims to turn policy into real impact for women and communities.

The UK Government, through its Women, Peace and Security (WPS) programme, is boosting women’s capacity in Katsina State. The two-day training, implemented by Gender Awareness Trust and Tetra Tech International Development and supported by SPRiNG, brought together government officials, security agencies, civil society, and traditional leaders.

Halima Abba-Ibrahim of GAT stressed that the exercise is about turning policy into measurable results. “Policies alone do not create transformation. Monitoring, learning, and accountability are key to making real impact for women and communities,” she said.

Katsina’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Musawa, highlighted that the training equips committees to track progress, identify gaps, and ensure effective implementation of the State Action Plan on WPS, promoting women’s meaningful participation in peace and security processes.

Participants were trained on SAP indicators, gender-sensitive data collection, and results-based reporting to ensure evidence-driven and sustainable interventions across the state.
