NIW PUSHES TO REBRAND WELDING AS A PRESTIGIOUS PROFESSION

From school dropout stigma to skilled career opportunity.

The National Institute of Welding (NIW) is calling for more public awareness to reposition welding as a respected and vital profession in Nigeria.

NIW President, Dr. Solomon Edebiri, said welding has long been misunderstood as a trade for school dropouts, but efforts with government agencies and stakeholders are changing the narrative. Programs with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and international training in Turkey, France, and South Africa have boosted technical skills and created a nationwide drive to promote welding as a key contributor to industrial development.

Edebiri stressed that increased awareness is helping Nigerians recognize welding as a technical career on par with other critical professions, with more youth embracing opportunities in the field.
