NFVCB SEES 161% JUMP IN FILM CLASSIFICATIONS IN JANUARY

English-language films dominate as board tightens age-appropriate content control.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) classified 102 films in January, marking a 161.5% increase from 39 films in December 2025, the board announced.

Most approvals were English-language films (86), with contributions from Igbo (8), Yoruba (3), Hausa (3), and Hindi (2) productions. Ratings showed 64 films for 15+, 27 for 18+, and smaller numbers in G, PG, and 12A categories, highlighting NFVCB’s focus on protecting young viewers.

Director of Corporate Affairs, Ogbonna Onwumere, also warned that films not classified by the board, especially online content, will face take-down orders to ensure compliance.
