As WASSCE 2026 approaches, NASU warns rising insecurity and poor logistics threaten both staff and students—and calls for urgent action.
The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) has urged stronger security and better welfare for WAEC workers ahead of the 2026 WASSCE. At its 46th Annual National Congress in Ilorin, union leaders highlighted dangers faced by staff travelling to remote exam centres, citing long hours on poor roads and exposure to high-risk areas.
Chairman Kayode Ogunyade stressed that unity is key amid economic hardship and rising insecurity, while NASU’s leadership praised WAEC management for ongoing support. Delegates demanded armed security at vulnerable centres, provision of rugged vehicles, and greater protection for candidates and staff alike.
NASU also called for proactive adaptation to global workplace changes, including digitisation and computer-based testing, while lamenting national challenges like inflation, poverty, and worsening insecurity. Five veteran unionists were honoured for outstanding contributions to labour activism.
