LFZ GREEN CHANNEL TO BOOST PORT EFFICIENCY, CUT BUSINESS COSTS – CUSTOMS

New customs corridor promises faster cargo clearance, more jobs, and stronger port competitiveness.

The Lagos Free Zone (LFZ) Green Channel, inaugurated on Wednesday at Ibeji-Lekki, is set to transform port operations in Nigeria. Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, said the initiative will make Nigerian ports more competitive, reduce business costs, and improve revenue collection.

The Green Channel allows containers to move directly from vessels to the free zone under a monitored customs corridor, cutting clearance time from 24–48 hours to just a few hours. The system also ensures better coordination for inspections and creates a transparent, efficient port ecosystem.

LFZ Managing Director, Adesuwa Ladoja, highlighted the collaboration with Lekki Port and the Nigerian Customs Service as a model of public-private partnership, improving cargo flow and trade facilitation.

Director of Finance and Operations, Ashish Khemka, added that the zone generated significant revenue in 2025 and created 10,000 jobs, while only using 10% of the port’s capacity.

Lekki Free Trade Zone Controller, Hawa Abubakar, said the Green Channel gives companies a “decisive operational advantage” for regional and global trade by speeding cargo movement, improving production planning, and reducing inventory costs.
