Relief has swept through Kwara State following the release of seven construction workers abducted by gunmen in Owa Onire community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, who were working on a construction project in the area, included two engineers employed by the Kwara State Ministry of Works. Their abduction had sparked anxiety among residents and raised fresh concerns over the safety of workers in rural communities.
Confirming their release on Monday, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, said the workers were freed through the combined efforts of the state government and security agencies.
Olododo praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his prompt intervention and continued support for security operations across the state, noting that the safe return of the workers reflected the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“We are grateful to His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the security agencies for their tireless efforts,” the commissioner said. “We also appreciate everyone who stood by us during this trying time. This development gives us renewed confidence in the state’s security architecture.”
He added that the government remains resolute in its determination to rid Kwara State of criminal elements and ensure a safe environment for residents, workers and investors.
Residents of Owa Onire community also expressed relief over the development, calling for sustained security presence to prevent a recurrence and to reassure communities hosting government and private sector projects.
