Dialogue ends protest as MMIA cargo operations get new tariff.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and cargo agents at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, have agreed on a ₦15 per kilogramme cargo charge, ending days of tension over tariff hikes.
FAAN announced the deal in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, noting that the agreement was reached after extensive talks at a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Lekan Thomas, Director of Cargo Development and Services.
The new rate is a compromise—down from FAAN’s proposed ₦20/kg but higher than the old ₦7/kg charge. The authority said the outcome reflects the value of dialogue and partnership in managing airport cargo operations.
The agreement follows protests by cargo agents who had grounded activities at the airport, insisting on consultation before any increase. Groups involved in the talks included ANLCA, NAGAFF, APFFLON and NAFFAC.
