7 DEAD, 70 INJURED IN KANO LONE CRASH – FRSC

Speeding and mixing passengers with goods turn fatal on Hadejia Road.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that seven people died and 70 others were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Hadejia Road, Kwanar Danja, Kano, on Sunday. Twenty-eight passengers escaped unhurt.

FRSC Sector Commander Idris Muhammed-Lawal said the crash happened around 8:35 a.m. and involved a DAF commercial trailer carrying both passengers and goods—a dangerous and illegal practice. Of the 105 people on board, speeding and loss of control were identified as the main causes.

Rescue teams arrived within minutes, and the injured were evacuated to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, Gezawa General Hospital, Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, and Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital. The road condition was reported as good.

The FRSC condoled with families of the victims and warned drivers—especially commercial operators—to avoid speeding, reckless driving, and carrying passengers in goods vehicles, urging strict compliance with traffic rules to prevent avoidable tragedies.
