VIGILANTES KILLED IN LOKOJA AMBUSH, COMMUNITY MOURNS HEROES

Two volunteer guards lose their lives protecting Lokoja as residents urged to stay vigilant.

Lokoja, Kogi State — In a shocking blow to local security, two members of the Volunteer Guards of Nigeria, Abbas Idris and Ibrahim Bello Hussain, were killed on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, while on routine patrol in Atsawa community near Jamata.

Confirming the tragedy, Lokoja LGA Chairman Comrade Abdullahi Adamu described it as a “painful loss” to the council and the community. He praised the officers for their bravery and commitment to maintaining peace.

“They paid the supreme price while protecting others. Their vigilance helped restore calm to nearby communities,” Adamu said, extending condolences to families, friends, and colleagues.

The council urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility. Plans for a memorial service to honour the fallen officers have been announced.

Adamu highlighted that the legacy of Abbas and Ibrahim would continue to inspire courage and commitment in safeguarding communities.
