Students get hands-on aviation training as industry meets the classroom.
United Nigeria Airlines has sealed a deal with Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) to give Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering students real-world, industry-based training.
Speaking at the MoU signing in Ado-Ekiti, the airline’s CEO, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the partnership creates a clear pathway for students to gain practical aviation experience through the SIWES programme, covering aircraft maintenance and aerospace operations.
He added that the training will run every year, be fully funded by the airline, and cost the university nothing — a move aimed at boosting human capacity in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
ABUAD Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, hailed the collaboration as a major step toward stronger technical education, saying it could help produce professionals capable of building, assembling and piloting aircraft locally in the near future.
Founder of ABUAD, Afe Babalola, also praised the initiative, describing education as the backbone of national development and the MoU as a big win for aviation and engineering manpower development.
