Over 100 civilians killed in terror strikes—UN calls for justice.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the deadly attacks on Nuku and Woro communities in Kwara State, North-central Nigeria, where more than 100 people were reportedly killed by the Memuda sect. Homes and shops were set ablaze, and many victims were shot at close range, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushland.
Guterres offered heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, urging swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice. He reaffirmed the UN’s solidarity with Nigeria in fighting terrorism and violent extremism.
The attacks mark the deadliest in recent months in Kwara and highlight the growing humanitarian crisis in Nigeria’s northwest and north-central regions, with displacement, hunger, and malnutrition on the rise.
