Windsor Castle hosts Nigeria’s president as Abuja–London ties get a fresh push.
President Bola Tinubu will make a state visit to the United Kingdom from March 18–19, marking the first official UK state visit by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.
The British Royal Family announced the visit, confirming that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host Tinubu and the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, at Windsor Castle. The UK Mission in Nigeria also described the trip as a chance to deepen the long-standing partnership between both countries.
State visits are the highest level of diplomatic engagement, and this one is expected to strengthen Nigeria–UK relations in key areas such as governance, trade, investment, security cooperation and climate action.
The last time a Nigerian leader paid a state visit to the UK was in 1989, when former military ruler Gen. Ibrahim Babangida was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.
