Outrage grows as 78 residents are killed in Woro and Nuku — governors say Nigeria must not bow to terror.
The Southern Governors’ Forum has condemned the brutal terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA, Kwara State, where at least 78 people were reportedly killed, demanding swift justice for the victims.
Speaking for the forum, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described the killings as a savage assault on innocent Nigerians who were peacefully going about their lives. He warned that reports suggesting the victims were targeted for refusing the imposition of Sharia law strike at the heart of Nigeria’s constitutional order.
“This is a horrendous and senseless act. Nigeria is a secular state, and every citizen has the right to freedom of religion and peaceful coexistence,” Abiodun said in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
Survivors said the attackers burnt homes and shops and abducted residents, with the assailants suspected to be terrorists linked to Boko Haram.
The southern governors urged security agencies to intensify operations, track down the perpetrators and ensure they face justice. “They must never get away with this. Nigerians deserve to live without fear,” Abiodun stressed.
He also expressed solidarity with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the people of Kwara, offering condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirming the forum’s support during what he called a deeply painful moment.
