SHETTIMA STORMS ILORIN AS FG MOVES TO CALM KAIAMA AFTER DEADLY ATTACK

VP arrives Kwara as Abuja vows justice for victims of the Woro massacre

Vice President Kashim Shettima touched down in Ilorin on saturday as the Federal Government stepped in to calm tensions following the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama LGA of Kwara State, where over 100 residents were reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists.

Shettima was received at the Ilorin airport by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Senator Sadiq Umar (Kwara North), and other top officials. His visit is aimed at assessing the situation firsthand, engaging traditional rulers, local authorities and security chiefs, and reviewing both security and humanitarian needs in the area.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier ordered the immediate deployment of a battalion of soldiers to restore calm and prevent further attacks, with a senior government source insisting the killings would not go unanswered.

The attackers reportedly invaded Woro on Tuesday, burning homes, killing residents indiscriminately and allegedly abducting women and girls. By Wednesday, at least 75 victims were given a mass burial, as survivors received treatment in nearby hospitals.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the incident as a “painful tragedy,” vowing that Kwara will not bow to terror, while Nigerians across the country continue to demand stronger security for vulnerable rural communities.
