SHETTIMA IN KWARA: “WORO ATTACK VIOLATES PEACEFUL WORSHIP”

Vice President Kashim Shettima leads a federal delegation to Ilorin, mourns victims of the deadly Woro attack, and assures residents that security forces are already on the ground.

Vice President Kashim Shettima was in Kwara State on Saturday to commiserate with the government and people over the brutal Woro attack in Kaiama, which claimed at least 75 lives.

Speaking at Ahmadu Bello House, Ilorin, Shettima condemned the killings as “an unacceptable violation of people’s right to peaceful worship,” saying the scale of the violence shocked the entire country. He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the visit to personally share in Kwara’s grief.

The Vice President, accompanied by Borno Governor Babagana Zulum, Senators Ali Ndume, Emmanuel Udende, and Ovie Omo-Agege, and NEMA DG Zubaida Umar, conveyed the President’s condolences and prayers for the victims. He confirmed that an army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield has been deployed to restore peace.

“Security issues are sensitive, but all hands are on deck to ensure peace and tranquillity return,” Shettima assured.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq thanked the federal government for the swift response, noting that soldiers, police tactical teams and emergency responders were already working to prevent further attacks.

Governor Zulum, speaking for the North-East, also prayed for the victims, expressing hope that such violence would never recur.

Community leaders, including the Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Muazu Sheu Omar, and Kaiama LG Chairman Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, praised the President, Vice President and state government for their prompt intervention and support.

The visit reinforced the federal government’s pledge to stand with Kwara State in mourning—and to keep its communities safe.
