Boosting maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, NIMASA plans to scale up its globally recognised Deep Blue initiative.
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is exploring ways to expand the Deep Blue Project, which has strengthened security and sustainability across the Gulf of Guinea. The announcement was made by NIMASA DG, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, during a strategic visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
Mobereola praised the Navy for its strong collaboration with NIMASA and said the expansion would enhance the project’s impact, with support from the President, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and the Navy. He noted that the project has drawn global attention, with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) commending its success.
Vice Admiral Abass welcomed the visit, emphasising the need for ongoing synergy between NIMASA and the Navy, revisiting their 2007 MoU, and leveraging the Navy’s expertise in vessel repair, hydrographic surveys, and wreck removal. He also commended NIMASA’s rollout of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) portal, which aims to support maritime investments.
Both leaders agreed that stronger collaboration is key to sustaining and expanding Nigeria’s maritime security and economic growth.
