NDLEA HAULS 7,746 TONNES OF ILLICIT DRUGS IN KOGI

Big seizures, hundreds of arrests, and a push for prevention as NDLEA steps up the drug war in Kogi.

The NDLEA in Kogi State says it confiscated a staggering 7,746 tonnes of illicit drugs between January and December 2025, dealing a major blow to drug traffickers.

Briefing journalists in Lokoja, the state’s NDLEA boss, Mustapha Yahuza, said 339 suspects were arrested for offences linked to cannabis, cocaine, tramadol and other psychotropic substances. Out of these, 80 convictions were secured, with offenders handed various jail terms.

Beyond arrests, the agency also focused on recovery and prevention. Its counselling unit provided intervention support to 238 drug-dependent persons, while 71 anti-drug sensitisation campaigns were held in schools, motor parks, markets, churches and mosques under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) drive.

Yahuza also praised the Kogi State Government for backing the fight, noting the creation of a State Drug Control Committee and the ongoing construction of a drug rehabilitation and skills acquisition centre.

According to him, the combined efforts show a strong commitment to public safety and drug control in the state.
