LAGOS TARGETS 10,000 DRIVERS WITH FREE HEALTH, SAFETY CHECKS

Eyes on safer roads as the state rolls out free medical screenings, eye tests and substance-abuse awareness for professional drivers.

No fewer than 10,000 professional drivers in Lagos are set to benefit from a new health and safety programme aimed at boosting driver fitness and cutting road crashes.

The initiative, announced by the Governor’s Special Assistant on Transport and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, will run February 9–12 across key transport hubs including Iyana Iba, Obalende, Lekki Free Trade Zone Parks and Lilly Pond Bonded Terminal, Apapa.

The programme targets occupational health risks faced by commercial and truck drivers who keep Lagos’ economy moving. Participants will get free eye screenings, medical consultations, corrective lenses, and substance-abuse awareness and testing.

Adekoya urged transport owners, unions and associations to mobilise their members and open up parks and depots for smooth implementation, stressing that the goal is to ensure drivers are physically fit, mentally alert and visually capable on the road.
