New leadership tasked with raising product standards, driving industrialisation and attracting investment.
The Federal Government has inaugurated the governing board of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), signaling a renewed push to strengthen industrial growth and make Nigeria more attractive to investors.
In Abuja, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, said the timing was right, noting that strong standards are critical to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. She stressed that SON must help Nigerian products compete locally, across Africa under AfCFTA, and in global markets.
Oduwole urged the board to tighten oversight, close implementation gaps and work closely with SON management to ensure goods—whether produced locally or imported—meet international quality benchmarks. She added that better standards would boost exports, create jobs and strengthen value chains.
Also speaking, Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Enoh, said the forthcoming Nigeria Industrial Policy would place even greater responsibility on SON to curb counterfeit goods and help local manufacturers compete globally.
Responding, SON Board Chairman, Mr Yahuza Inuwa, pledged that the board would deliver on its mandate and support Nigeria’s drive toward industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
