Infighting could drain PDP’s last strength and wreck 2027 chances
A PDP chieftain, David-Kolawole Vaughan, is sounding the alarm, urging Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to bury the hatchet fast before the party bleeds out completely.
Speaking in Lagos, Vaughan warned that the prolonged Makinde–Wike feud is tearing the PDP apart, weakening its public image and pushing members out the door ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This fight is hurting PDP’s fortunes and distracting Nigerians from real governance issues,” he said, adding that the verbal exchanges between both camps are damaging the party’s credibility.
Vaughan blamed the crisis on deep divisions within the party leadership and Board of Trustees, allegedly driven by personal interests rather than party survival. He urged both leaders to meet, compromise and remember the grassroots members who sacrificed for the party.
“If this continues, we’ll lose the remaining membership,” he warned, stressing that aspirants need a stable party platform, especially since Nigeria’s law does not allow independent candidacy.
Vaughan reminded Makinde and Wike that the PDP made their political rise possible and now needs loyalty, restraint and sacrifice in return. “Members are tired. We want unity. We want to win,” he said.
The crisis, NAN reports, has already split the PDP into factions, triggering defections of governors, lawmakers and party heavyweights to rival parties.
