President orders Operation Savannah Shield after deadly assault on Kwara community, says killers won’t escape justice.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly terrorist attack on Worro community.
The battalion will lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at flushing out terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities in the area. The directive was confirmed in a statement issued in Abuja by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
Condemning the attack as cowardly and barbaric, Tinubu vowed that the perpetrators would be tracked down and arrested, stressing that Nigeria will not tolerate violence against innocent citizens.
The President expressed outrage that the attackers targeted residents who reportedly rejected attempts at extremist indoctrination, choosing instead to practise a peaceful form of Islam. He praised the community’s courage, noting that their stand for peace over violence was commendable.
Tinubu also directed close collaboration between federal and state authorities to provide relief for affected residents and ensure the attackers do not slip through security cracks.
He offered prayers for those killed and extended condolences to the bereaved families, as well as the people and government of Kwara State, assuring them that the federal government stands firmly with them.
