KAIAMA ATTACK: BANDITS KILL KWARA NURSING STUDENT, OUTRAGE GROWS

Student leader gunned down alongside brother as fresh attacks reignite calls for tougher security action in Kwara

Fresh grief hit Kwara State on Wednesday after suspected bandits killed Salihu Bio Khalid, a student of the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, during a deadly attack on Kaiama Local Government Area.

Khalid, a Midwifery student and former SUG President, was reportedly killed alongside his brother when gunmen stormed Woro and Nuku communities on Tuesday night. The assault also claimed several other lives, deepening fears over the worsening security situation in the border axis with Niger State.

The National Association of Nigeria Comrades (NANC), Kwara Axis, described Khalid’s death as a devastating blow to the student community. In a joint statement, the group said the late student leader was known for his courage, passion for student welfare and commitment to unionism.
“His service reflected purposeful leadership. This is an irreparable loss,” the association said, as it condoled with his family, colleagues and the college community.

Beyond mourning, NANC condemned the rising insecurity threatening students and residents, urging the state government and security agencies to step up protection around campuses, host communities and major routes, and ensure those behind the Kaiama attack are brought to justice.

Political leaders also weighed in. Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, called for intensified military operations in Kaiama and surrounding areas, warning that continued attacks on innocent citizens were unacceptable. He also urged communities to cooperate fully with security agencies.

Similarly, Senator Saliu Mustapha (Kwara Central) described the killings as senseless and tragic, calling for the deployment of more troops and stronger collaboration between residents and security forces.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara condemned the attack and urged the government to provide urgent humanitarian and medical support to affected communities, while pressing security agencies to track down and prosecute the perpetrators.

As Kaiama buries its dead, residents and stakeholders are united in one demand: end the violence and restore lasting peace.
