Amid internal tensions, the PDP caretaker leadership says unity—not exclusion—will define its next big gathering.
The Wike-backed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee has pledged to deliver an “all-inclusive” national convention that gives every party member a voice.
Speaking after the committee’s meeting in Abuja, National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed said the caretaker leadership is working strictly within the PDP constitution and electoral laws to organise a transparent and peaceful convention.
“There is no division in the PDP under our leadership,” Mohammed insisted. “We are repositioning the party and bringing everyone together ahead of future elections.”
The committee also adjusted the convention date. Originally scheduled for March 28–29, it has now been moved to March 29–30, following further consultations.
In addition, the caretaker committee dissolved the North-West, South-West and Plateau zonal committees, announcing that new caretaker committees will be appointed for the zones. Timetables for ward, state and zonal congresses earlier approved by the NEC remain unchanged.
The leadership said it will consult widely before naming a national convention planning committee.
Bottom line: the Wike-aligned PDP leadership says unity and inclusion will guide its march to the next convention.
