Court battles fade as party leaders call for healing, trust and a fresh start
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it’s turning the page after months of internal crisis, declaring that the legal storm is over and the focus must now be on reconciliation and unity.
Speaking at the party’s 85th Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja, BoT Chairman Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa said the PDP stands at a crossroads and must place collective interest above personal ambition to survive and grow.
He welcomed the Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan, which affirmed the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee, urging members to respect the courts and obey lawful decisions.
“With the legal fog lifting, we must now rebuild trust, reconcile differences and prepare for orderly congresses and a credible national convention,” Ohuabunwa said, stressing that unity is a strategic necessity, not a choice.
He noted that delays in party congresses were deliberate, driven by respect for pending court cases, not inaction. “The PDP chose legality over expediency and patience over provocation,” he added.
Caretaker Committee Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed thanked the BoT for its firm support and praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for standing by the committee at a defining moment.
Mohammed said the time for holidays was over, urging swift action to reposition the party, while warning that the PDP “cannot afford to sleep now.”
