FCT minister urges party faithful to return to the grassroots and rebuild
The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has pushed back against narratives of decline in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting the party remains a formidable political force — not a charity organisation.
Speaking at the 105th PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike told members to stop pitying the party and start rebuilding it from the wards and polling units.
“Forget the idea that PDP is a charity organisation. PDP is very strong. We must capitalise on what we have and move forward,” he said.
Addressing internal disputes and legal battles, Wike said his concern was purely about the survival and success of the party nationwide, urging leaders to stay alert to forces working to destabilise the PDP.
“They will not give up until they think you are destroyed — but we will not be destroyed,” he declared.
Wike also expressed confidence in the party’s internal capacity, citing its legal and organising officers as experienced hands capable of steering PDP through the storm.
He called on members to await clear directives from the caretaker committee, especially on the overdue congresses, which he described as critical to organising a credible national convention.
