OWERRI BUZZES AS IMO CELEBRATES GOLDEN JUBILEE

50 years of resilience, culture, and progress!

Owerri was alive with drums, masquerades, and jubilant crowds on Tuesday as Imo State marked its 50th anniversary. Streets from Orji to Okigwe Road were filled with cultural displays and celebratory chants, reflecting a city proud of its journey since creation in 1976 by Murtala Mohammed.

The state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Ernest Ibejiako, hailed the milestone as a “celebration of greatness,” noting improvements in education, commerce, and infrastructure under Governor Hope Uzodinma, alongside the restoration of peace. He said, “Imo has risen from grass to grace, and the people are happy.”

The golden jubilee festivities continue with a novelty match at Dan Anyiam Stadium on Friday and a grand finale on Saturday.
