NSCDC, UK PROGRAMME LAUNCH GENDER POLICY 2 TO BOOST INCLUSIVITY

Promoting women, youth, and minority participation in security and governance!

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in partnership with the UK-funded SPRiNG Programme, has unveiled its Gender Policy 2 (2026–2030) to strengthen inclusivity, human rights protection, and community engagement in security operations.

The initiative aims to increase participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and minorities in peacebuilding, governance, and security, while ensuring civilian protection and accountability.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, Dr. Ukoha Okiwo of SPRiNG said the policy would align with Nigeria’s Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security and forthcoming plans for youth engagement.

The UK Deputy High Commissioner, Ms. Gill Lever, highlighted the policy’s focus on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, disability inclusion, and gender-responsive budgeting, stressing that meaningful change comes when policies move from paper to practice.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by NSCDC CG Prof. Ahmed Audi, praised the policy for creating equal opportunities for women in the security sector, while Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, emphasized its role in preventing sexual and gender-based violence and promoting women’s leadership in decision-making.

The Gender Policy 2 sets the stage for a more inclusive, accountable, and effective security sector in Nigeria.
