A golden jubilee, the Information Minister says, is not just for reflection but a call to action.
As Niger State marks its 50th anniversary, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has described the milestone as a defining moment to strengthen institutions, deepen unity and pursue inclusive, sustainable growth.
In a statement from Abuja, Idris said the golden jubilee is more than a celebration of time—it reflects the resilience, sacrifices and hopes of the people of Niger State since its creation in 1976.
Known as “The Power State,” Niger, Nigeria’s largest state by landmass, hosts key hydroelectric assets—Kainji, Jebba and Shiroro dams—and boasts vast arable land that supports national development, agriculture and livelihoods.
While acknowledging the state’s democratic journey, Idris said the anniversary should push leaders and citizens to look forward, not just back, and chart a clearer path toward inclusive growth and long-term transformation.
He urged Nigerlites to support Governor Umaru Bago, noting that under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Niger State stands to benefit from national efforts to revive the economy, rebuild infrastructure and strengthen institutions.
Idris also paid tribute to the state’s founding fathers, saying the future must honour the foundations laid five decades ago.
The message at 50: unity, responsibility and action today will define Niger’s next 50 years.
