Government acts proactively to protect students and teachers amid rising local tensions
The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of all schools in the state following rising security concerns in certain communities. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo described the move as a precautionary measure to safeguard pupils, students, and teachers, stressing that the decision was based on credible intelligence reports.
The directive, confirmed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, is meant to strengthen security around educational institutions. He emphasized that the action is not driven by panic, but reflects the government’s commitment to proactive and responsible governance. “It is always better to prevent incidents than to react after they occur,” Fanwo said.
The government has also instructed security agencies and relevant stakeholders to implement necessary measures to ensure schools can resume safely once the situation is assessed. Parents and communities have been urged to cooperate and remain vigilant during the closure.
The move highlights ongoing concerns about localized security threats in parts of Kogi State, prompting authorities to take preventive action rather than wait for incidents to occur.
