Milestone MoU aims to fast-track development and attract investments to Enugu State.
The Enugu State Government and UNDP Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering education, energy, trade, digital economy and more, linking the state to the UNDP Integrated Smart States Programme (ISSP).
Speaking at the Government House ceremony, UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Elsie Attafuah said the programme would turn political priorities into investment-ready projects, attract private and institutional funding, and strengthen delivery systems. The agreement focuses on five pillars: health systems, Smart Green Schools, energy, innovation & digital economy, and trade & tourism promotion.
Funding is set to roll out in two tranches: March 1 and July 1, 2026, with UNDP ensuring resources are available for immediate activation. Attafuah emphasized speed, accountability, and operational coordination to transform Enugu into a model state for human capital and investment-led growth.
Governor Peter Mbah described the MoU as a key milestone, highlighting the partnership’s role in eradicating poverty, ensuring transparency, and maximizing value for public funds.
