EFCC RAIDS ILLEGAL MINERS, SEIZES LITHIUM TRUCKS IN KWARA

10 suspects arrested as anti-graft agency targets unlicensed mineral operations.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stepped up its crackdown on illegal mining in Kwara State, arresting nine truck drivers and an escort and impounding trucks loaded with lithium, tin, and lepidolite along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho corridor.

EFCC’s Dele Oyewale confirmed the suspects had no valid permits for mining or transporting the minerals. The operation follows intelligence reports on unlawful excavation and movement of solid minerals across Kwara and Oyo states.

“The suspects were caught without proper licences, and their trucks have been seized as evidence,” Oyewale said, adding that they will face court charges once investigations conclude.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to sanitising the solid minerals sector, tackling economic sabotage, and curbing illegal mining activities nationwide.
