Onitsha Main Market reopens with confidence as army steps up protection!

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has assured traders in Onitsha Main Market and other economic centres in the South-East of full security and safety.

Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army PR, said all law-abiding citizens will be protected, with intelligence-led operations ongoing to dismantle remnants of IPOB and ESN hiding in the region.

He praised traders for courageously resuming business despite past threats, calling it a strong stand for peace, security, and economic progress. Ayeni warned criminals to lay down arms or face the full force of the law.

The Army emphasized continued collaboration with civil authorities, traditional leaders, and security agencies, urging the public to provide credible information on threats. Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, GOC 82 Division, noted that state government support has been key to restoring normalcy and enabling commerce to thrive.
