From the battlefield to civilian life, the focus is on skills, dignity and long-term stability.
The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) have stepped up collaboration to improve troops’ welfare and post-service empowerment.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, said the strengthened partnership is designed to equip officers and soldiers with vocational, technical and professional skills that support economic self-reliance after retirement.
Speaking at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Shaibu stressed that welfare must go beyond active service, adding that the Army is working to remove obstacles that limit effective skills acquisition.
He praised NAFRC’s training programmes and called for better post-training placement, noting that many retired personnel have skills that can add value in the private sector and other civilian institutions.
The Army chief also urged deeper partnerships, stronger data systems and smarter placement strategies to ensure trained personnel transition smoothly into sustainable jobs.
NAFRC Commandant AVM Nnaemeka Ilo welcomed the support, noting that Army personnel make up a large share of trainees at the centre. He pledged the centre’s commitment to improving welfare, skills development and resettlement outcomes.
Bottom line: service to the nation shouldn’t end without a secure future.
