NOA TO A’IBOM RESIDENTS: DRESS RIGHT, KEEP IT DECENT

Fashion is fine, but decency still matters — and NOA wants Akwa Ibom residents to remember that when stepping out.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has rolled out a statewide campaign against indecent dressing in public places across Akwa Ibom, saying it’s about preserving public decorum and shared values.

Launching the campaign in Uyo, NOA State Director Mkpoutom Mkpoutom said the move is proactive, not punitive, aimed at reminding residents that how we dress reflects dignity, respect and community standards.

He raised concern over the growing trend of exposing sensitive body parts — especially among young people — stressing that dressing goes beyond fashion and affects the social and economic environment.

NOA has already kicked off the drive through media engagements and is now taking the message to communities, with mobilisation officers tasked to intensify grassroots sensitisation across local councils.

Backing the initiative, Uduak Essien, Chairperson of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in the state, warned that indecent dressing attracts negative perceptions, undermines Akwa Ibom’s culture of decency and could even limit access to opportunities, especially for youths.

The message is clear: dress smart, respect yourself, respect the society.
